It’s Finally Done

This is probably the first post I’ve written related to my current writing activities, other than blogging. To offer a brief background, I have been working on several stories (3 that I have completed drafts) since 2009, although I started writing stories in 2002. Since 2009, between jobs, school, and a bit of distractions, I have been able to write 3 stories that I plan to publish (most likely self publish). Today, I just finished the first draft of my 3rd story that has taken my 2 years to write.

For some, this may not be a big deal since a writer can spend many years writing a story, but for me it has been. I find that if I begin writing a story and stop at some point, I fear that I will lose the ideas that I had for it or that it will not be consistent–that the beginning will have a different feel than the middle, end, or where ever I continue from. And although I could take notes (which I do) about things I would like to include or make happen in the story, I am the kind of writer that does a lot of improvising and even if I have a “script” of what the story will be about, once I start to write, the story takes on a life of its own and sometimes goes in a different direction from what I planned.

So as I have finally completed my 3rd story, these upcoming months will be spent deciding on a title and a lot of editing. I will also be working on all 3 of my stories’ “blurbs” or summaries, which is currently the most challenging thing for me to do. I don’t know if I will seek to traditional publish or self publish them, but seeing that I will need money to create a cover design and have them edited by others, I may take a chance at pitching them to agents. At this point, that area is unknown.

I will keep you posted on my progress with them and share more as things develop πŸ™‚
